On a 1 3/4 inch (4.45 cm) yellow square, one point up, four red projectiles 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in length and 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in width, with points out and overlapping the corners of the square, all on a 2 1/4 inch (5.72 cm) square olive drab background.
The design was arbitrarily selected, using the colors associated with Coast Artillery.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 23 April 1942.
